Beaver is an extinct town in Beaver Township of Barton County, Kansas. However, it is a census-designated place, and as of the 2020 census, the population was 52.
A post office was established on June 19, 1919. Throughout the years, this small agricultural town has had numerous businesses, a school, grain elevators, and more. Its oldest business is the Beaver Grain Corp, founded in 1958 and still in operation today. It has become the leading independent agricultural service provider in Barton County, Kansas, providing local farmers with grain storage options, marketing solutions, crop management services, and seed.
Beaver never grew very large, and its post office closed on December 26, 1992. Its school also closed, and the community is served by the Central Plains USD 112 public school district in Claflin, Kansas, today. The town still has numerous homes, old business buildings, active oil well pumps, a gas station, grain elevators, a fire department, and the grain company.
Beaver is located northeast of Hoisington at the intersection of NE 190 Rd and NE 60 Ave.
