White Rock Creek, a tributary of the Republican River, flows through Republic, Smith, and Jewell Counties in northern Kansas. It flows northeast into the Republican River. The mouth of White Rock Creek was the site where Cheyenne Dog Soldiers slaughtered a party of six buffalo hunters from Waterville, Kansas, in May 1869.
The same month, the Excelsior Colony from Brooklyn, New York, took claims along White Rock Creek and built a blockhouse north of the present town of Mankato. By June 1869, these settlers had left because of conflicts with the Indians.
A boat ramp on the west end of Lovewell Reservoir has primitive camping spots, a picnic table, a vault toilet, an information center, and a parking area.
